I googled some designs and found the perfect one. Nothing over the top, just a perfect first birthday cake. I then asked around for good local cake makers and narrowed it down..one even lives round the corner from me. What are the chances of that? But then a thought hit me, a crazy thought seems as though ive never even made a cake.. nevermind a birthday cake complete with icing and decoration. ID MAKE IT MYSELF! So yeah, call me crazy but i think it will be such a special gesture with it being his first birthday. And well.. if it goes wrong he's not really old enough to eat it anyway is he? Or at least then id have a good idea to splash out on a cake smash photo shoot.

I've made all the birthday cakes for my kids. They never turn out Pinterest worthy, but they love that mommy made them a cake and my 6 yr old has loved to help for the last 4 years. Plus, having her as a part of the process gives me an excuse to tell the relatives why it turned out so messy! :)
